A Wheels Story…

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls”. Matthew 11: 28-29

Toby* has faced more weight in life than any young person should be expected to carry. As a young child his biological mom would leave for the entire day, and he was expected to take care of his younger siblings. In addition to the burden of meeting the needs of his siblings, he was facing physical and sexual abuse from his mom.

He recalled the day his mom came home and informed him that she could no longer deal with 3 kids. She was having him put into foster care. Over the next few years, he had several different foster care placements. Toby stated, “to this day I have never again seen my biological mom or my biological siblings, and I have no idea where they live. After being removed from my home, I was beginning to feel that I wasn’t worth much to anyone.”

In Toby’s own words, “in the middle of all my struggles, God was looking out for me!” A very loving couple felt they had a calling from God to adopt children in need and in that calling God led them to Toby.  He stated, “they adopted me and have not only loved me and accepted me as their own child but have also given me the resources to begin to heal from all the past trauma of being abused.”

Toby shared that the YFC Wheels program has made a major impact on his life. “I never realized how much fun it would be to work on cars. I’ve learned so much from the adult leaders and they have shown me how much they care. Because of this I’ve grown a lot in my relationship with God. The weekly “shop talks” are awesome, and it really feels like a family as we work together.”

Toby has discovered that he doesn’t have to carry his burdens alone but can rely on God to be there when he needs him the most.
