A BoB Story…
Tim and I stood together at the graveside service following the funeral… just weeks after Tim had gotten home from Adventure Camp with us. There wasn’t much to say. I put my arm around him and we stood quietly. The woman who had served as a mother-figure to Tim and his brother for the past several years… was suddenly gone.
Now late in his high school career, Tim had already become too familiar with loss. Tim and his brother were abandoned by their bio mom in early middle school. One day, she just left them all—two sons and a husband. Now, another mother-figure had left him.
Tim would tell you that the leaders at YFC have become his family. A female staff member recently took Tim and his brother school shopping. The Band of Brothers leaders rallied to cover the costs. After Adventure Camp this summer, Tim insisted on going back to camp to be baptized next summer… with all of us present for the event in Wyoming. He knows he’s loved. Last summer he gave his trust to Jesus. At the close of this summer, he’s coming to grips with the reality that God is calling him to become a lifelong member of a supernatural family–the Body of Christ.
Throughout the funeral, Tim walked from YFC leader to YFC leader to just be hugged. To be noticed. To feel known.
This team will be there for Tim, because Jesus is building a family.
Together,
Matt Hebert
