A Satisfied Story…
One day last winter at Powder Ridge, our local ski hill, there was a teenage boy looking for some lunch. A Satisfied leader was there that day and happened to notice him. The two began a conversation as they sat down and ate lunch together. By the end of the conversation, this leader invited him to our winter Satisfied sessions on Friday nights. From this invite, this quiet boy continued to come again and again to Satisfied. We saw him connect with a few others and he slowly opened up in our small group conversations about his story, God and the Bible. One skate session, he vulnerably volunteered to share his life story with the rest of us during supper. He spoke about his parents’ relationship and he shared with us some of the real challenges in his two different homes.
At our last indoor session of the season, we stood on the ramps together at the end of the night and I asked him what he thinks of Satisfied and if he’ll keep coming back. He answered me with life in his eyes, “YES! I love it here, I want to keep coming to Satisfied as long as I can!”
Summer flew by but we stayed connected. We took a day trip with other Satisfied youth to a mental health skate event where the Gospel was shared and he also came to Adventure Camp with Satisfied! As we ate lunch at the base of a waterfall at Adventure Camp, he said, “This is the best week and best summer of my life.” He felt a direct contrast to his lonely summer of playing video games all day, every day; to being surrounded by deep community. After hearing the good news of the Gospel one evening at camp, the same leader that originally connected with him at Powder Ridge got to check in with him about his relationship with Jesus. This teen’s response was, “I need Him” and they got to pray right then and there.
Since Adventure Camp, we’ve continued our relationship with him by going to a couple of concerts together, where God pursued him with yet another opportunity to hear about His love for him through the message of the Gospel. We are grateful he has been coming to Satisfied every night this season! We look forward to seeing how God continues to pursue relationship with him as his story unfolds, along with any other teenagers the Lord would lead to us at Satisfied.
