A Full Circle Story…
Silas* came up to me sheepishly, yet enthusiastically. It was after he had heard my message on forgiveness at Adventure Camp. He asked jokingly (in Silas fashion)… “Are you stalking me?… but seriously how did you know?! How did you know during solitude time, God told me I needed to work on forgiving my dad?” I responded to him with a grin and said, “Silas, I didn’t know that, but the Holy Spirit must have.” As I reflected on this interaction, I continue to be amazed and honored that we get to walk alongside teenagers in partnership with the work and power of the Holy Spirit.
This journey of forgiveness of “dad wounds” for Silas didn’t just start, nor end at camp. It is one that started years ago and continues today. Throughout Full Circle last year, we became more aware of the tension that was in Silas’ relationship with his dad. As Silas left camp, forgiveness surely wasn’t automatic, but our prayer and hope for him is as he daily chooses to not withhold forgiveness, the weight he carries would be less.
